Claiming your Deferred pension benefits

Find out when and how you can claim your Deferred Pension in Berkshire.

Payment of your Deferred Pension on ill-health grounds

Premature payment of deferred benefits is possible if your health breaks down before the Normal Pension Age (NPA), provided your former Scheme employer is satisfied that, had you remained in their employment, you would have been retired on the grounds of permanent ill-health.

If you would like to investigate this further, please put your request in writing directly to your former employer. Your former employer will need to consider if you are permanently unable to do your old job because of your ill-health.

Important: the decision to award pension benefits on ill-health retirement grounds rests entirely with your former employer.

If the ill-health retirement is approved is approved by your former employer you will receive full
payment of your deferred pension benefits. There will be no reduction for early payment, and
no enhancement.

If your former Scheme employer no longer exists your request can be forwarded to the Pension Fund - Royal County of Berkshire Pension Fund, Zone C, Town Hall, Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 1RF. Alternatively you can email info@berkshirepensions.org.uk
